What to Expect

Rediscovering Margit Wagner is a short retrospective season at the IFI reassessing a filmmaker whose work has been largely overlooked despite her influence. Wagner made more than ten film and radio programmes about Ireland from the late 1950s into the 1970s, work that significantly shaped how German audiences saw the country, and which the National University of Ireland recognised with an honorary doctorate in 1980. One reviewer of her work said she had a talent for “filming wonderful things to which we are blind.” The season opens with an introduction on Tuesday 11 August, followed by double-feature screenings on three further evenings through the month, giving Dublin audiences a rare chance to see her Ireland-focused films on the big screen for the first time in decades.

Getting There

The Irish Film Institute is on Eustace Street in Temple Bar, Dublin 2, a five-minute walk from College Green. Dublin Bus routes run along Dame Street and College Green nearby, Tara Street and Pearse DART stations are within fifteen minutes on foot, and the Luas Red Line stop at Jervis is a short walk across the Ha’penny Bridge.
