What to Expect

Junior 1 is the leading grade below intermediate for Dublin’s club footballers, and its group stage keeps to Sunday morning throw-ins across the city. On 9 August, St Marks face Good Counsel/Liffey Gaels at McGee Park and Geraldine P. Morans meet St Brendans in Ballyogan for Group 1, Civil Service Football host Ranelagh Gaels at Islandbridge and Na Gaeil Óga face Beann Éadair at St Catherine’s Park for Group 2, Robert Emmets meet Erin Go Bragh at Green Trees Park and St James Gaels An Caisleán face Stars of Erin at the Iveagh Grounds for Group 3, and Crumlin host Wanderers at Pearse Park while Garda/Westmanstown Gaels face Bank of Ireland in Westmanstown for Group 4. All games throw in at 11:00. Junior 1 draws its clubs from every corner of the county, from long-established city clubs like Crumlin to workplace sides such as Civil Service Football and Bank of Ireland, and the standard across the four groups tends to be tight and competitive rather than one-sided.

Getting There

Pearse Park in Crumlin is served by Dublin Bus routes along the Crumlin Road, close to the Kimmage/Crumlin shopping district. Islandbridge, home to Civil Service Football, sits by the Liffey near the War Memorial Gardens and is reachable via Dublin Bus routes along the South Circular Road. Other grounds, including St Catherine’s Park and the Iveagh Grounds, are best reached by car or local bus; check the host club’s page on dublingaa.ie for specific directions before travelling, since junior-grade grounds rarely have dedicated visitor parking.
