Dublin Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship - Group Stage

What to Expect

Sitting just below Senior 2 in Dublin’s hurling pyramid, the Premier Intermediate Championship is contested by clubs pushing for senior status. On Saturday 15 August, Naomh Fionnbarra host Scoil Uí Chonaill at Pope John Paul II Park, Setanta face Lucan Sarsfields at their own grounds, Naomh Ólaf meet Fingallians at Páirc Uí Bhriain, and Cuala host Na Fianna at Shanganagh Park. All four ties throw in at 18:30, and with each club guaranteed a full group of games, the round offers a clear look at where the promotion race stands heading into the closing rounds. The competition continues with a further round on Saturday 29 August. Cuala and Na Fianna both field hurlers who have played inter-county underage or senior hurling for Dublin, so this fixture in particular tends to draw a stronger crowd than a typical group game at this level.

Getting There

Shanganagh Park in Shankill is close to Shankill DART station on the southern branch of the line, with the ground a short walk or local bus ride from the station. Lucan Sarsfields’ and Setanta’s grounds are on the western side of the city, best reached by car or Dublin Bus routes along the N4 corridor. Check the host club’s page on dublingaa.ie for directions to a specific ground before travelling, and note that group fixtures are sometimes moved between the club’s main pitch and a neighbouring training ground at short notice.
