Sigur Rós are one of those bands that people travel continents to see, and in September 2026 they bring something rarer still - an orchestral staging of their music - to Dublin for two nights. Paired with the Ulster Orchestra under conductor Robert Ames, the Icelandic band performs material from their 2023 album ÁTTA, their first new record in nearly a decade, alongside songs from a catalogue built over 25 years. The ÁTTA album itself leans heavily orchestral, so the pairing with a full orchestra is less a gimmick than the natural form these pieces were always reaching for. These Dublin dates are among the last on a world tour that has been running since 2023, making this a genuine closing chapter for anyone who has been putting it off.
The show draws on ÁTTA - an album named after the Icelandic word for “eight” and recorded with the London Contemporary Orchestra - as well as deeper catalogue pieces that have defined the band’s reputation for slow-building, wordless emotional intensity. Conductor Robert Ames, who has worked with Sigur Rós across multiple orchestral collaborations, shapes the Ulster Orchestra’s contribution around the band’s textures rather than over them. Reunited keyboardist Kjartan Sveinsson, back in the fold since 2022, adds to a lineup that feels complete for the first time in years. Expect a long, immersive set in a seated concert-hall format - this is not a standing crowd show. Bring patience and go in with nothing else to do afterwards.
Bord Gáis Energy Theatre sits at Grand Canal Square in Dublin’s Docklands, about a 20-minute walk from the city centre. The most straightforward public transport options are the DART to Grand Canal Dock station (a short walk from the venue) or the Luas Red Line to the Docklands / Connolly area. Several Dublin Bus routes serve Pearse Street, a 10-minute walk away. If driving, Grand Canal Square car park is accessed off Pearse Street - book in advance for a Saturday night. Taxis and Ubers are plentiful from the city centre.
