What to Expect

Emma Langford is a singer songwriter from Newmarket on Fergus in Co. Clare, known for a rich, powerful voice and songs that draw on her own life, from struggles with body image and mental health to family history and the west of Ireland landscape she grew up in. She built her name through years of session and backing work before releasing her debut album “Sowing Acorns” in 2018, followed by “Wolf in the Mirror” in 2021, and has become a regular at Irish folk festivals including Cambridge Folk Festival and Electric Picnic. Expect a set that leans on voice and storytelling over volume, songs introduced with the kind of between song chat that makes a small room feel like a house concert, and a mix of originals with the odd well chosen cover. Monroe’s Live, upstairs from the main tavern, is a good fit for this kind of show, an intimate room where the audience is there to listen rather than talk over the support act.

Getting There

Galway city is well connected from around the country, with Irish Rail running direct services from Dublin Heuston in around two hours fifteen minutes and Bus Eireann and Citylink both running frequent coaches from Dublin, Limerick and Cork. Monroe’s is on Dominick Street Upper in Galway’s West End, across the bridge from the Claddagh and roughly a 10 to 15 minute walk from Eyre Square and the train and bus station. The West End has plenty of pubs and restaurants nearby for food or a drink before the show, and it is an easy, well lit walk back into the city centre afterwards.
