Eternum at Music in the Forest

At Dorlindon Nature Sanctuary · Kilmacanogue, Co. Wicklow

Eternum performing at Dorlindon Nature Sanctuary

Eternum brings a rare combination of ancient instruments into one of Wicklow’s most distinctive outdoor settings. This is not a conventional folk gig - Eternum weave together evocative vocals, lute guitar, Irish bouzouki, blockflöte (recorder) and bodhrán into something that sits comfortably between early European music and the Irish tradition. The result is genuinely transportive: music that could have been played in a medieval hall or a forest clearing, which is exactly the point. This afternoon concert is part of the second annual Music in the Forest festival, an Ancient Music series running weekends across summer 2026, and it suits anyone who wants a genuinely different afternoon out - adults, older teenagers, and anyone with a curiosity about music older than the recording era.

What to expect

The concert runs from 3pm to 5pm in Dorlindon’s “Cathedral of Trees” - a natural forest amphitheatre within the sanctuary grounds. Eternum’s sound carries the listener back through the centuries: lute guitar and Irish bouzouki provide the harmonic foundation, the blockflöte cuts through with a bright, reedy tone, and the bodhrán keeps the pulse without ever dominating. The vocals tie it together. The forest setting amplifies everything - acoustics in a well-canopied space are surprisingly warm, and the combination of dappled light and unhurried pace makes for an afternoon that feels far removed from a standard venue concert. Gates open at 2pm, so there is an hour to settle in before the music starts. The festival donates a portion of ticket proceeds to the Children’s Health Foundation, supporting Children’s Health Ireland hospitals.

Getting there

Kilmacanogue sits just off the N11, roughly 3km south of Bray and about 30 minutes by road from Dublin city centre. By car, take the N11 south and follow signs for Kilmacanogue village - the journey from Dublin is straightforward and well-signposted. There is parking on site for ticket holders, but the venue advises it is limited, so arriving early or carpooling is the sensible approach. By public transport, the Dublin Bus 145 route and Bus Eireann services on the N11 corridor stop at or near Kilmacanogue; check times on the day as Sunday services run less frequently. Wicklow is also on the DART Plus road-investment corridor, but for this venue, a car or a lift remains the most reliable option.

While you’re in Kilmacanogue

The village sits at the foot of the Great Sugar Loaf, one of the most recognisable peaks in Leinster, and the wider Glen of the Downs is within easy reach. Timing a concert with a walk in the hills makes for a full day. There is more to see in Kilmacanogue and across Co. Wicklow.
