Feakle International Festival of Traditional Irish Music

At Various venues, Feakle · Feakle, Co. Clare

Traditional Irish music session

The Feakle International Festival of Traditional Irish Music is one of Ireland’s most respected trad gatherings - a six-day celebration running from Wednesday 5 to Monday 10 August 2026 in the small East Clare village the festival has made its own. Now in its 38th year, it draws serious musicians and complete beginners alike, alongside families, singers, dancers, and anyone who wants to sit in a pub and hear traditional music played the way it should be. If East Clare trad - the Tulla sound, the slow airs, the concertina tradition - means anything to you, this is the source.

What to expect

The programme spreads across the whole village: the Community Hall, St. Mary’s Church, Peppers Marquee, Moloney’s Pub, Bohan’s Pub, the Fair Green, and the National School. No single venue dominates.

Workshops run Thursday to Saturday, starting at 10:00 am, and cover fiddle, concertina, accordion, singing, and more. Tutors for 2026 include Martin Hayes, Mary McNamara, Jack Talty, Maeve Donnelly, and Eileen O’Brien - names that carry real weight in East Clare traditional music. Workshop tickets cost €25 per day or €60 for three days.

Concerts vary from free to ticketed. The Opening Night on Wednesday at the Community Hall is free. A Musical Recital and a Gala Concert both take place in St. Mary’s Church (€30). The Sunday Outdoor Concert on the Fair Green is free. Evening céilís run nightly (€10 at the door), with the Tulla Céilí Band closing proceedings on Sunday. Lunchtime concerts on Friday and Saturday at the Community Hall cost €15.

Free singing sessions happen daily at Moloney’s Pub. A pop-up Irish language gathering meets Saturday afternoon. A guided historical walk departs the Festival Office on Thursday at 2:00 pm. Children’s entertainment includes a puppet show on Sunday at 1:30 pm in the Community Hall - no charge.

Getting there

Feakle sits on the R462, about 35 km east of Ennis - roughly 35 minutes by car. From Limerick city, allow around 50 minutes. There is no regular bus service to the village, so driving or getting a lift is the practical approach. Parking in the village is limited during peak festival days, particularly for Saturday evening events; arriving early or parking on the outskirts and walking in is sensible.

While you’re in Feakle

The village sits on the edge of East Clare’s lough country, and the surrounding area is worth time before or after the music. There is more to see in Feakle and across Co. Clare.
