At Knock Shrine · Knock, Co. Mayo
Once a year, the Diocese of Clogher, which covers most of County Fermanagh along with Monaghan and parts of Tyrone, Donegal and Louth, organises a diocesan pilgrimage to Knock Shrine in County Mayo, led by Bishop Larry Duffy. Parishes across Fermanagh arrange their own coach transport for parishioners who want to take part, with Enniskillen parish departing from St Michael’s Bookshop and other parishes, including Aghalurcher covering Lisnaskea and Maguiresbridge, running their own buses. It is one of the biggest single days in the diocesan calendar, bringing parishioners from across three counties to the national Marian shrine together.
Pilgrims arrive at Knock between 10:30am and 11:15am and register at St John’s Welcome Centre before a day built around Mass at the Basilica, confession, the Rosary and time to visit the shrine grounds and the apparition chapel. The day is designed to conclude by around 3pm, allowing time for the return journey home. Because arrangements are organised parish by parish rather than centrally, transport and timing vary: Aghalurcher parish’s bus leaves the Parish Centre in Lisnaskea at 7:45am, with booking required through the parish office, while Enniskillen parish’s departure time from St Michael’s Bookshop is confirmed closer to the date. Parishioners without a confirmed local departure are advised to check their own parish bulletin for the arrangements in their area, as not every parish is listed centrally by the diocese.
Knock Shrine is in County Mayo, roughly a three-hour drive from Enniskillen. Most Fermanagh pilgrims travel by parish coach rather than independently; anyone missing their parish transport can also drive, with the shrine’s own car parks well signposted from the N17.
Pilgrims travelling from Fermanagh gather at parish departure points around the county before setting off for Knock. There is more to explore across Co. Fermanagh.
