Fermanagh Senior Football Club Championship

Fermanagh GAA club football championship match

The Fermanagh Senior Football Club Championship is one of Ulster’s most fiercely contested county competitions, running from July through to a final later in the autumn. If you follow Gaelic football and want to see it played at close quarters, intense, local and unfiltered, a club championship round in Fermanagh is about as good as it gets. With a small pool of senior clubs in the county, every team knows every other team well, and that familiarity breeds real rivalry rather than the more distant needle of an inter-county game.

What to expect

Fermanagh’s senior clubs play through group and knockout rounds before a county final, chasing a competition with real history behind it. Teemore Shamrocks, Lisnaskea Emmetts and Enniskillen Gaels have long been among the county’s most decorated sides, Derrygonnelly Harps were the dominant force through much of the 2010s and early 2020s, and Erne Gaels Belleek have been the team to beat more recently, having won back-to-back titles in 2024 and 2025. Matches are played at club grounds rather than a single central venue, so the fixture and venue shift from round to round depending on the draw. Expect committed, tight, high-stakes football and a crowd that knows most of the players on both teams personally.

Getting there

Most Fermanagh club grounds sit within 30 to 45 minutes of Enniskillen by road. The county town is on the A4 from Belfast, roughly 90 minutes away, and the N16 from Sligo, about 70 minutes. Bus Eireann and Translink both serve Enniskillen, with connections from Belfast, Omagh, Sligo and Monaghan, though a car is generally needed to reach the individual club grounds from there.

While you’re in Enniskillen

The town centre makes a good base, with the lakeshore, Enniskillen Castle and the wider Fermanagh lakelands within easy reach before or after a match. There is more to see in Enniskillen and across Co. Fermanagh.
