At Various Club Venues · Fermanagh, Co. Fermanagh
The Fermanagh Senior Football Club Championship is one of Ulster’s most fiercely contested county competitions, running from July through September each year. If you follow Gaelic football and want to see it played at close quarters - intense, local, and unfiltered - a club championship match in Fermanagh is about as good as it gets. With only 22 clubs in the county, every team knows every other team well, and that familiarity breeds genuine rivalry. Supporters who might struggle to get to Brewster Park for an inter-county game will find a club ground far more accessible, and the atmosphere is usually far warmer.
Eight senior clubs compete in the championship, playing through group stages and knockout rounds before a county final later in the autumn. The New York Gold Cup is the prize, and clubs like Teemore Shamrocks (21 titles), Lisnaskea Emmetts (20), and Enniskillen Gaels (13) have long histories at the top of the competition. More recently, Derrygonnelly Harps dominated across the mid-2010s into the early 2020s, while Erne Gaels Belleek won back-to-back titles in 2024 and 2025 - making them the team to beat going into 2026.
Matches are played at club grounds across the county, not at a central venue, so fixtures shift depending on which teams are drawn at home. Check the Fermanagh GAA website before travelling - the draw and schedule are published there, usually a few weeks ahead of each round.
Most Fermanagh club grounds are within 30 to 45 minutes of Enniskillen by road. The county town sits on the A4 from Belfast (roughly 90 minutes) and the N16 from Sligo (about 70 minutes). Bus Eireann and Translink both serve Enniskillen, with connections from Sligo, Omagh, Monaghan, and Belfast. From the town, you will typically need a car to reach the individual club grounds - car sharing with a local is the norm.
Parking at GAA club grounds in rural Fermanagh is generally available on-site or in adjacent fields on match days. Arrive with time to spare on bigger fixtures.
The town centre makes a fine base, with the lakeshore, Enniskillen Castle, and the Fermanagh lakelands all within easy reach before or after a match. There is more to see in Enniskillen and across Co. Fermanagh.
