At Various Club Venues · Fermanagh, Co. Fermanagh
The Fermanagh Ladies Football Club Championship is one of the county’s keenest summer competitions, running through July, August and September at club grounds across Fermanagh. If you want to see committed, physical Gaelic football played for nothing more than county pride and the chance to lift a title, this is exactly the right place to be. Club championships throw up matches that often exceed the intensity of county level - the players know each other, the supporters are regulars, and the stakes feel personal. It suits anyone with a genuine interest in ladies Gaelic football as well as visitors who want to see what the sport looks like at its grassroots best.
The championship is organised by Fermanagh GAA on behalf of the county’s ladies clubs, and it runs across two tiers - a Gold competition for the stronger clubs and a Silver Knockout for the rest. Clubs from across the county take part, including Enniskillen Gaels, Newtownbutler First Fermanaghs, Kinawley Brian Borus, Knockninny Gaels, Belnaleck Art MacMurroughs, and Tempo Maguires, among others. Matches in the opening rounds tend to be played at club grounds on weekend afternoons, with later rounds and finals often staged at Brewster Park, Fermanagh’s main GAA ground in Enniskillen. Specific fixture dates and venues are confirmed on a rolling basis through the season - check the Fermanagh GAA website and the club’s own social pages for the latest information before travelling to a specific game.
County Fermanagh is reached most easily by road. From Dublin, the N3/A3 via Belturbet and Enniskillen is the main route, taking around two and a half hours. From Belfast, it is roughly an hour and a quarter on the A4 via Dungannon. Enniskillen is served by Bus Eireann cross-border services and Translink services from Belfast and Derry. Club grounds around the county are typically in smaller towns and villages with limited public transport links, so a car is the practical option for reaching most venues. Parking at GAA club grounds is generally on-site or in an adjacent field; expect a short walk at busier fixtures.
Co. Fermanagh is worth more than a single afternoon. The county sits on the Erne system, one of Ireland’s great lakelands, and the scenery around Lough Erne rewards time spent exploring. There is more to see in Enniskillen and across Co. Fermanagh.
