Charlie’s Bar on Church Street runs a weekly Sunday evening trad session, with the Irish Traditional Group playing from 7:30pm in the downstairs bar. Charlie’s has been trading since 1944 and is now run by the third generation of the same family, and the Sunday session is its longest-standing musical fixture, older than the weekend band nights the bar has since added through summer. Musicians from around the area are welcome to join in, and the room has an informal, unhurried feel that suits the end of the weekend.
The Irish Traditional Group takes the downstairs bar from 7:30pm, playing standard session tunes on fiddle, flute, banjo and accordion with room for singers and visiting musicians to join in. It is a genuine open session rather than a booked act, so the line-up varies week to week depending on who turns up, though a core of regular players anchors it. Charlie’s downstairs bar has an open fire and a well-worn, cosy feel that has helped the pub pick up a TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice award in recent years and an Ulster Pub of the Year title. Sunday is deliberately lower key than the bar’s Thursday to Saturday live band nights, aimed more at listening and playing than dancing, and it draws a mix of regulars, musicians and visitors looking for a proper session to end the weekend.
Charlie’s Bar is on Church Street in Enniskillen town centre, close to the same stretch as Blakes of the Hollow. Street parking and the nearby Tesco car park on the west bank are the most convenient options for a Sunday evening visit. The bus station is a short walk away.
