At Enniskillen Town · Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh
The Enniskillen 10k is one of the most popular road races in Ulster, drawing well over a thousand runners each year to the streets and estates of Co. Fermanagh’s county town. Organised by Enniskillen Running Club and sponsored by Modern Tyres, this chip-timed 10km has built a reputation as a genuinely well-run, community-backed event - one that suits everyone from competitive club runners chasing a PB to first-timers looking for a well-supported race with a great finish-line atmosphere.
The route is often described as a “Castle to Castle” course, and that tells you most of what you need to know about the scenery. Runners set off from Enniskillen Castle, head along Wellington Road and out the Castle Coole Road, then pass through the grounds of Castle Coole - the National Trust’s grand 18th-century manor house set in a 1,200-acre wooded estate. After emerging onto the Dublin Road, the course swings around the Killyhevlin area before the race’s signature challenge: the Ardhowen Hills, a short but sharp climb that sorts the field before the finish at Derrychara Playing Fields. The finish area has hot food, refreshments, and family activities including face painting and entertainment for younger spectators. The first 1,400 finishers receive a medal, and a t-shirt is included with race entry. Bib collection runs the Friday evening before the race (5-8pm) and again on race morning at Enniskillen Castle from 9am. Minimum age is 15.
Enniskillen sits roughly an hour south-west of Belfast and about 1.5 hours north-west of Dublin via the A4/N16 corridor. From the Republic, the most direct route is via Sligo on the N16 or through Monaghan on the A3. Bus Eireann and Translink operate services into Enniskillen from various directions, though for a race-day start at 10am, driving gives you more flexibility. Car parking is available throughout the town centre - there are several public car parks within easy walking distance of Enniskillen Castle, where the race begins.
A race in Enniskillen is a good excuse to linger. The town sits on an island between two channels of the River Erne, with Lough Erne stretching north and south - the lake scenery around the town is genuinely striking, and Castle Coole (which you’ll run through) is worth a proper visit if you have the afternoon free. There is more to see in Enniskillen and across Co. Fermanagh.
