At Ardhowen Theatre · Dublin Road, Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh
Just Stage It Academy is bringing Disney’s High School Musical JR to the Ardhowen Theatre in Enniskillen this July - and if you have young people in the house who can hum “Breaking Free” from memory, this is the afternoon out for them. It is a full youth musical production, performed by children and teenagers from the academy, and it delivers exactly what the show promises: big songs, big energy, and a story about finding your place that lands every time. Families, grandparents, and anyone who grew up with the Disney Channel original will find plenty to enjoy.
Disney’s High School Musical JR follows basketball captain Troy Bolton and new student Gabriella Montez as they upend the social order at East High by auditioning for the school musical - much to the displeasure of drama queen Sharpay Evans. The JR version is a tighter adaptation of the full musical, purpose-built for young performers, and Just Stage It Academy brings real credentials to it. Founded in 2013 and based in Northern Ireland, the academy has performed on the West End, on Broadway in New York, and at Disneyland Paris. This is not a school play; it is a properly staged production with choreography, costumes, and a cast that trains seriously.
You can expect the full catalogue - “We’re All in This Together”, “Stick to the Status Quo”, “Start of Something New” - performed live, with dance numbers to match. The venue advises that a smoke and haze machine and flashing lights will be used during the performance, which is worth knowing if anyone in your group is sensitive to either.
There are two performances on the day: a matinee at 4:30pm and an evening show at 7:30pm. Tickets are non-transferable and non-refundable, so confirm your date before booking.
Ardhowen Theatre sits on Dublin Road on the southern edge of Enniskillen, a short drive from the town centre. The theatre has several large car parks on site, including designated disabled bays, and there is an overflow at Celtic Park about five minutes’ walk away. Arrive with time to spare, particularly for the matinee - the car park fills up quickly before popular shows.
Enniskillen is well connected by road: it sits on the A4 between Belfast (roughly 90 minutes) and Sligo (about an hour), and on the A32 from Omagh. Translink Ulsterbus operates services into Enniskillen from Belfast, Omagh, Sligo, and surrounding towns; the bus station is in the town centre, a walkable distance from the theatre. If you are travelling from the Republic, the N16 from Manorhamilton and the N54/A3 from Monaghan both feed into Enniskillen.
Enniskillen is built on an island between the upper and lower sections of Lough Erne, and the setting alone makes the trip worthwhile - the castle and the water are right there as you come into town. There is more to see in Enniskillen and across Co. Fermanagh.
