TeaForTwo Theatre Company presents A Night of Comedy Drama

At Ardhowen Theatre · Dublin Road, Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh

TeaForTwo Theatre Company presents A Night of Comedy Drama

A local theatre company with roots in Enniskillen’s own Ardhowen stage brings two very different comedies together for one entertaining double bill. TeaForTwo Theatre Company - founded by Enniskillen director and actor Ryan Moohan, who has been performing here since the age of nine - is dedicated to giving Fermanagh talent a platform, and this July programme is a confident showcase of exactly that. If you enjoy theatre that swings between sharp contemporary writing and classic stagecraft, this is a good night out for adults who like their comedy well made.

What to expect

The evening runs two one-act plays back to back. First up is 2 Friends and Social Anxiety, an original piece that finds the comedy in recognisable modern moments - the dreaded shopping trip, the social event you can’t get out of, the small catastrophes of everyday life. It is warm and witty rather than cynical, and lands closest to sketch-style observational comedy.

The second half belongs to Peter Shaffer’s Black Comedy, a farce first staged in the 1960s that has lost none of its fizz. A sculptor and his fiancée are entertaining guests when the lights fail - except on stage the convention is inverted: darkness is played in full light and light in darkness. The result is a brilliantly constructed chain of misunderstandings and physical mishaps that builds to genuine chaos. It is a demanding piece to pull off and a smart choice for a company that wants to show range.

Ryan Moohan trained in Drama and Theatre Studies at Liverpool Hope University and brings credits from local companies FMT, ELO, and EADS, as well as Edinburgh Fringe experience. The company is young and ambitious, and both nights are likely to feel like an event rather than a routine outing.

Getting there

Ardhowen Theatre sits on the Dublin Road on the western edge of Enniskillen, roughly a ten-minute walk from the town centre along the lough shore. There is free on-site parking directly at the theatre - useful if you are driving in from elsewhere in the county. Enniskillen itself is reached via the A4 from the east (Dungannon, Belfast) or the N16/A4 from Sligo to the south-west. Bus Eireann and Translink both serve the town; Enniskillen Bus Centre is about a fifteen-minute walk from the theatre, or a short taxi ride.

While you’re in Enniskillen

Enniskillen is a compact and genuinely attractive island town on Lough Erne, with Enniskillen Castle, the waterways, and a good selection of bars and restaurants all within easy reach of the theatre. There is more to see in Enniskillen and across Co. Fermanagh.
