Gaiety Theatre Autumn Season 2026

At Gaiety Theatre · South King Street, Dublin 2

Gaiety Theatre autumn season Dublin

The Gaiety Theatre has been putting on shows since 1871, and the autumn season is one of the better reasons to make the trip into Dublin city centre. Running from September through November, it brings together a genuine mix - touring musicals, Irish drama, stand-up comedy specials, and variety nights - across three months in an auditorium that makes even a middling night feel like a proper occasion. It suits couples looking for an evening out, theatre regulars who want to see what is touring this year, and anyone who has never actually been inside and is long overdue a visit.

What to expect

The Gaiety is a working Victorian theatre rather than a heritage museum, and the programme reflects that. Autumn tends to include West End touring productions alongside Irish-produced drama and comedy. The late-night Gaiety Late shows on selected Friday and Saturday nights attract a younger crowd and run to a looser format - worth checking if the main billing is not your thing. The auditorium itself seats around 1,165 across three tiers, with gilded private boxes, a richly ornamented ceiling, and the kind of red-and-gold interior that was built to impress and still does. Architect C.J. Phipps designed it - he had just finished the Gaiety in London a few years earlier - and extended by Frank Matcham in 1883. The result is one of the best-preserved Victorian theatres in these islands. Evening shows start at 7:30pm; matinees run on selected days. Tickets from €20 depending on the production and seating.

Getting there

The Gaiety sits on South King Street in Dublin 2, about a two-minute walk from the top of Grafton Street. From Heuston or Connolly Station, the Luas Red Line and Green Line both serve the city centre - St Stephen’s Green Luas stop is the most useful, putting you a short walk from the door. Dublin Bus runs frequent services across the city; stops on Grafton Street and St Stephen’s Green are the closest. If you are driving in, parking is available at the St Stephen’s Green Shopping Centre car park directly opposite, and at the Drury Street multi-storey a few minutes on foot. Driving on a Friday or Saturday evening needs a bit of planning - allow extra time.

While you’re in Dublin

South King Street runs between Grafton Street and St Stephen’s Green, so you are already in the centre of things. There is no shortage of places for a pre-show meal or a drink afterwards, from the pubs of Camden Street to the restaurants clustered around Dawson Street. There is more to see in Dublin and across Co. Dublin.
