Reek Sunday is one of Ireland’s most significant annual pilgrimages. Thousands of pilgrims ascend Croagh Patrick (764 metres), Ireland’s holy mountain, traditionally in honour of Saint Patrick who spent forty days fasting on the mountain in the 5th century. The pilgrimage creates a powerful processional atmosphere with 20,000 to 30,000 participants on the day itself.
Croagh Patrick is located near Westport, Co. Mayo. Drive from Galway west towards Westport (approximately 90 minutes), follow signs to Croagh Patrick car park.
