Galway - All-Ireland SHC Semi-Final 2026

At Croke Park · Jones' Road, Dublin 3

GAA hurling championship match

One of the biggest days in the hurling calendar, the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship semi-final puts Galway up against Cork at Croke Park on Saturday 4 July. Galway come in as Leinster champions, having beaten Dublin to secure automatic qualification. Cork earned their place by coming through the quarter-final round. With a place in the All-Ireland final on 19 July at stake, this is high-stakes hurling from the opening puck-out - the kind of match that reminds you why the sport holds such a grip on the country.

What to expect

Croke Park holds 82,300 and it fills up fast for All-Ireland series hurling. The noise from a packed Hogan Stand during a tight championship match is unlike most sporting occasions. Both Galway and Cork have deep traditions in hurling and passionate supporter bases who travel in big numbers - expect colour, flags and the full roar of a summer crowd well before throw-in.

Galway have been building steadily through the Leinster Championship and will carry genuine confidence. Cork, as always, bring pace and directness. These counties have met at this stage before and the games rarely disappoint. The winner advances directly to the All-Ireland final a fortnight later, which keeps the intensity high for every minute of play.

Getting there

The match is in Dublin, not Galway - Croke Park sits on Jones’ Road in Dublin 3, about a 15-minute walk from the city centre. Getting there by public transport is strongly recommended. Drumcondra rail station is the closest stop, a short walk from the ground. Dublin Bus serves the area on multiple routes. There is no public parking at Croke Park, and the roads around it lock up well before throw-in, so building in extra time is wise. From Galway city, intercity coaches and trains to Dublin run regularly, with journey times of roughly two hours by rail.

Tickets go on public sale through the GAA and Ticketmaster. Demand for All-Ireland series hurling is high and supply is limited, so book as early as possible once the sale opens.

While you’re in Galway

If you’re making a weekend of it and combining a trip to the capital with time in the west, Galway city is two hours from Dublin and well worth the detour. There is more to see in Galway and across Co. Galway.
