Galway Intermediate Football Championship 2026: Group Stage

What to Expect

Below senior level, the Galway Intermediate Football Championship also runs to a 16-club, four-group format for 2026. Group 1 is made up of St. Michael’s, Oileain Arann, Micheal Breathnach and Kilkerrin-Clonberne. Group 2 has Corofin, Cortoon Shamrocks, Claregalway and Oranmore-Maree. Group 3 pits An Spideal, Clifden, Glenamaddy and Menlough against one another, while Group 4 brings together St. Brendan’s, Caherlistrane, Kilconly and An Cheathru Rua. As with the senior championship, the groups were confirmed in June 2026 and fixtures were scheduled for the weeks ending 2 August and 16 August, meaning group action continues through the middle of August with more rounds to follow before the knockout stages.

Good to Know

• The next round of group fixtures falls on the weekend of 15-16 August 2026, played at club grounds around the county rather than one central venue.
• Winners of each group progress towards the intermediate knockout stages and, ultimately, a shot at senior status for 2027.
• Check individual club and Galway GAA fixture listings close to the weekend for confirmed throw-in times and grounds, several of which were still to be finalised in advance.
• Adult admission at Galway club championship fixtures has generally run from around EUR 10, with concessions for students, OAPs and free entry for juveniles.
• This grade sits directly below senior, so promotion and relegation between the two championships is decided at the end of the season.
• The county’s Primary Junior football championship, one level further down, was already scheduled for the week ending 19 July, giving a sense of how the club football calendar tiers down through the grades over the summer.

Getting There

Matches are staged at club grounds throughout County Galway, from An Spideal and Clifden on the west coast to Kilconly and Caherlistrane inland. Confirm the exact venue for your chosen fixture before travelling, as grounds can be reassigned close to throw-in.
