At Pearse Stadium · Pearse Stadium, Galway, Co. Galway
A Premier Division fixture with form behind it - Galway United take on Waterford FC at Pearse Stadium on a Saturday evening in late July. These two sides have already met twice in 2026: United won 4-3 in March and the teams drew 1-1 in April, so there is needle between them heading into this one. For anyone wanting to catch a live League of Ireland match in Galway, this is a good fixture to pick, with a 5pm kick-off that leaves plenty of evening ahead.
Pearse Stadium in Salthill is a large GAA ground repurposed for Galway United’s home fixtures while work continues at Eamonn Deacy Park. League of Ireland crowds fill a section of the stands tightly, which creates a louder atmosphere than the ground’s full capacity might suggest. Home fans enter via Dr Mannix Road or behind the main stand on Rockbarton Court, and there is a club bar and shop operating before kick-off. The match is Premier Division - the top flight of domestic football in Ireland. United sit mid-table in 2026 and Waterford are just below them, so both sides have reason to push for the three points.
Pearse Stadium is in Salthill, just west of Galway city centre. Parking around the ground is tight. The club recommends Coláiste Éinde Secondary School on Threadneedle Road (about 600 metres away), where parking costs €5 and over 540 spaces open two hours before kick-off on a first-come basis.
The easier option is the bus - the 401 service stops on Dr Mannix Road beside the turnstiles and runs from Eyre Square in around 15 minutes. From Salthill village it is a 15-20 minute walk along the seafront.
Salthill has a long promenade and a good run of pubs and restaurants within easy reach of the ground - arriving early for something to eat before kick-off is straightforward. There is more to see in Galway and across Co. Galway.
