At Glaslough Village · Glaslough, Co. Monaghan
Glaslough Village Market brings food, craft and variety stalls to the centre of Glaslough on the last Saturday of every month. Run by Glaslough Tidy Towns as a community fundraiser, it turns the village around the gates of Castle Leslie Estate into an open-air market for the day. The market is free to browse and draws both locals doing a Saturday shop and visitors staying in the area, with stalls typically covering home baking, crafts, plants and local food producers.
Stalls are set up through the village centre from mid-morning, with the market officially running 10am to 4pm. Glaslough Tidy Towns, the volunteer group behind the market, has a strong record locally, including County First and Gold Medal placings in the Monaghan Tidy Towns competition, and the market is one of several projects the group runs to keep the village active through the year. Expect home baking, jams and preserves, crafts, and a changing line-up of other stalls depending on who has applied to trade that month. Because it runs monthly rather than weekly, the mix of traders shifts noticeably from one market to the next, so regulars tend to check what is on before travelling any distance to Glaslough for the day.
Glaslough is about 10km north-east of Monaghan town on the R185, reachable from Monaghan town or from Emyvale to the north. There is no direct scheduled bus service to the village, so a car is the practical option for most visitors. On-street parking is available in and around the compact village centre.
The market is a good excuse to spend a couple of hours in the village, with Castle Leslie Estate and its gardens and walking trails right on the doorstep for anyone wanting to extend the visit. There is more to see in Glaslough and across Co. Monaghan.
