At Clara Market · Woodfield, Moate Road, Clara, Co. Offaly, R35 P9F8
Clara Sunday Market and Car Boot Sale has traded on the Moate Road outside Clara since 1993, making it one of the longest-running car boot markets in the midlands. Every Sunday from 7am, the six-acre site fills with sellers offering tools, clothes, plants, toys, DVDs and CDs, household items, car and machinery accessories, dog food, fishing tackle, riding tack, motorbike gear and work wear. No booking is needed for buyers or casual sellers, people simply turn up on the day.
Traders arrive from 7am and set up across indoor and outdoor pitches on the six-acre grounds. The mix changes week to week, but regulars sell secondhand and new goods side by side: general household clearances, garden plants and flowers, tools and machinery parts, pet supplies, and clothing rails. Car boot sellers pay a small pitch fee and do not need to book ahead, which keeps the stock unpredictable and is part of the draw for regular bargain hunters. The Get Stuffed cafe operates on site for breakfast rolls and tea through the morning, and there are customer toilets. Car parking is free. The market has been a fixture for the Clara area for more than three decades and draws buyers from Tullamore, Athlone and Mullingar as well as locals, particularly in the earlier hours before the best stock is picked over.
The market site is on the Moate Road just outside Clara, about 4km from Junction 6 on the M6 motorway. It is roughly 15 minutes from Tullamore, 20 minutes from Athlone and 25 minutes from Mullingar by car. Free on-site parking is available for both buyers and traders, and the grounds cover six acres with indoor and outdoor space.
Clara sits on the River Brosna a short drive from the market site, with bog railway heritage and riverside walks worth combining with a Sunday morning browse. There is more to see in Clara and across Co. Offaly.
