What to Expect

Glory Days is a full band tribute to Bruce Springsteen, built around the marathon, horn heavy, working class rock and roll that Springsteen and the E Street Band turned into a live institution over five decades. Expect the hits that define that catalogue, “Born to Run”, “Born in the U.S.A.”, “Dancing in the Dark”, “Thunder Road”, played with the E Street Band’s arrangement rather than a stripped down version, saxophone included where the songs call for it. A good Springsteen tribute leans as much on stage presence and stamina as musicianship, since the appeal of the original shows was always as much about the marathon three hour sets and the sense of a community singing along as it was about any one song. Monroe’s Live gives that kind of show a proper stage and sound system rather than a pub corner, and a crowd that will know the choruses well enough to carry them.

Getting There

Galway city is well connected from around the country, with Irish Rail running direct services from Dublin Heuston in around two hours fifteen minutes and Bus Eireann and Citylink both running frequent coaches from Dublin, Limerick and Cork into the city’s train and bus station. Monroe’s is on Dominick Street Upper in Galway’s West End, across the bridge from the Claddagh and about a 10 to 15 minute walk from Eyre Square and that station. There is a good choice of pubs and casual food along the West End for before the show, and taxis are easy to find nearby afterwards.
