Her Outdoors: Introduction to Archery, Ennis

What to Expect

Hosted jointly by Clare Sports Partnership and The Archers of Ennis, this four-hour session introduces complete beginners to archery in a woodland setting at Ardcarney Wood. The morning starts with safety instruction covering how to handle a bow, nock an arrow and behave on a live range, before moving into hands-on coaching from club members. Participants then get to shoot at six 3D woodland targets set through the trees, a more varied and visually interesting format than a flat outdoor range, before a friendly closing competition between the group. Winners take home a voucher towards one of the club’s beginner courses, and refreshments are provided at the end. All equipment, including bows and arrows, is supplied, so participants need nothing more than suitable outdoor clothing and closed shoes. The session forms part of Clare Sports Partnership’s Her Outdoors programme, a summer-long series pairing adult women with local clubs across the county so they can try a new sport in a low-pressure, beginner-only group rather than joining a mixed-ability club session cold.
