At Vicar Street · 58-59 Thomas Street, Dublin 8
Ilana Glazer is one of the sharpest comic voices to come out of American television in the past decade, and this July she brings her live stand-up to Vicar Street for one night. The show is part of her Ilana Glazer Live! tour, with material being filmed for an upcoming stand-up special - so the Dublin audience gets in early. If you know her from Broad City, the series she co-created with Abbi Jacobson, expect the same quick-witted, politically charged energy in full live form. If you don’t, this is a decent place to start.
Glazer has been doing stand-up for nearly two decades, and her material over the past few years has been consistently political without being lecture-y - she covers social issues, identity and everyday absurdity with a directness that lands. The Broad City years gave her a platform but her solo stand-up voice is its own thing.
Vicar Street holds around 1,050 for seated shows, which keeps things intimate by Dublin standards. The stage is low-barrier, performers and audience feel close, and the room has a warmth that suits comedy well. Open since 1998, it has a reputation as one of the better mid-sized rooms in Europe. Expect good sightlines and a lively Thursday night crowd.
