At Wexford Arts Centre Theatre · Cornmarket, Wexford, Co. Wexford
JMA have been filling the Wexford Arts Centre Theatre for years now, and this July date is their latest return to a room that suits them perfectly. The act is built around the songs of Bob Dylan and Neil Young - two songwriters whose catalogues run so deep that no two nights need to sound alike. If you grew up with “Like a Rolling Stone”, “Cortez the Killer”, or “You’re a Big Girl Now”, this is an evening where those songs get the space and attention they deserve. It suits anyone who takes the music seriously, as well as anyone who simply wants a good Friday night out in a proper atmospheric venue.
JMA centres on the vocal partnership of James and Anne Meyler, who carry the weight of Dylan’s wordplay and Young’s raw, stretched delivery between them. Michael Egan handles guitar, with Sean O’Leary on drums and Keith Devereux on bass. The band do not try to impersonate their subjects - they perform the songs with conviction, giving the material room to breathe. Expect a mix of Dylan’s electric and acoustic periods alongside Young’s harder guitar workouts; “Cowgirl in the Sand” regularly makes the set, as does material from both artists’ quieter, more personal sides. The show is described as a sell-out night, and the track record at Wexford Arts Centre bears that out - book early.
The theatre itself is worth noting. The Wexford Arts Centre is the oldest regional arts centre in Ireland, housed in a building from 1776 that was originally designed as a corn exchange in the neoclassical style. With a capacity of around 120, there is not a bad seat in the house, and the scale means the music lands without any distance between band and audience.

Bus Eireann runs regular services from Dublin and the south-east; Wexford train station on Redmond Place is around a 10-minute walk from the Arts Centre.
Wexford town has a good stretch of restaurants and pubs along the main street and quays, and an evening show at the Arts Centre pairs well with dinner nearby beforehand. There is more to see in Wexford and across Co. Wexford.
