West End star Anna-Jane Casey steps into the shoes of Judy Garland for this striking piece of biographical theatre, running at the Gaiety for nearly a fortnight in September 2026. The play covers the final chapter of Garland’s life - her last concert run at the Talk of the Town in London, with her loyal pianist Anthony at the keys and her new fiancé Mickey in tow. It is a portrait of a performer battling personal demons while trying to reclaim her place as one of the great entertainers of the twentieth century. If you have any love for Garland’s music, or simply enjoy drama with real emotional weight, this is a production worth planning an evening around.
The script draws closely on the real events of those last months, capturing the contradictions of a life lived at full pitch - the wit and warmth that made Garland beloved, alongside the exhaustion and fragility that defined the end. Anna-Jane Casey brings significant stage credentials to the role, and the Gaiety’s intimate Victorian interior - its horseshoe balconies and ornate plasterwork dating to 1871 - lends the setting a period atmosphere that suits the material well. Performances run at matinee (14:30) and evening (19:30) times across the run, so there is flexibility for an afternoon show or a night out. The production is presented without interval breaks typical of drama of this scale, so it asks for full attention from start to finish.
The Gaiety Theatre sits on South King Street, just off Grafton Street and a short walk from St Stephen’s Green. It is one of the easiest venues in Dublin to reach by public transport. DART trains serve Pearse Station (a 10-minute walk) and Connolly is not much further. Luas Green Line stops at St Stephen’s Green, directly around the corner. Dublin Bus routes along Grafton Street and Nassau Street drop you practically at the door. If you are driving in from outside the city, multi-storey car parks on Drury Street and Chatham Row are the closest options - expect to pay city-centre parking rates on an evening out.
The theatre sits in the middle of the old Georgian south side, with Grafton Street, the Iveagh Gardens, and the National Concert Hall all within easy reach.
