At Monroe's Live · Dominick Street Upper, Galway City, Co. Galway
Just One Direction is a tribute act built around the songbook of One Direction, the band formed on the UK X Factor in 2010 whose five members, including Mullingar’s own Niall Horan, became one of the best selling pop acts of the 2010s before splitting to pursue solo careers. Expect a set built for maximum singalong energy, “What Makes You Beautiful”, “Story of My Life”, “Night Changes” and “Best Song Ever” among the likely inclusions, choreography and stagecraft leaning into the boyband format the originals built their live shows around. This kind of tribute night tends to draw a different crowd than Monroe’s Live’s usual guitar and singer songwriter bookings, often a younger audience or one that grew up on the band during their original run, and the atmosphere tends to be closer to a big singalong party than a standard gig. Expect a genuinely fun, high energy room rather than a serious musicianship showcase, which is very much the point of a boyband tribute done well.
Galway city is well connected from around the country, with Irish Rail running direct services from Dublin Heuston in around two hours fifteen minutes and Bus Eireann and Citylink both running frequent coaches from Dublin, Limerick and Cork. Monroe’s is on Dominick Street Upper in Galway’s West End, across the bridge from the Claddagh and about a 10 to 15 minute walk from Eyre Square and the train and bus station, with plenty of pubs and casual food nearby beforehand.
