The Kantos Quartet at the Garage Theatre

The Kantos Quartet bring their debut Centenaries Tour to the Garage Theatre on Sunday, 20 September 2026, at 6:30pm, presented by the National String Quartet Foundation. What to expect

The quartet is made up of four Irish musicians: Sarah Sew and Hugh Murray on violin, Alexandros Koustas on viola and Aoife Burke on cello. The Centenaries Tour programme moves between classical and contemporary work, built around the idea of looking back at the musical and cultural landscape of the 1920s while also looking ahead to the bicentenary of Beethoven’s death in 2027. The advertised programme includes a Beethoven quartet alongside pieces by the American composer Caroline Shaw, the Irish-French composer Swan Hennessy and the Czech composer Leos Janacek, so the evening moves across roughly a century of very different writing for string quartet rather than staying in one style throughout.
