Cromane Seafest takes over this small aquaculture village on the Castlemaine Harbour shore for a weekend each September, celebrating the mussel and oyster farming that has sustained the community for generations. It styles itself as a celebration of coastal life, seafood and community spirit, welcoming everybody, and it has grown in recent years with backing from Fáilte Ireland’s regional festival fund. It runs Friday to Sunday, 18 to 20 September 2026.
The programme mixes food, water sports and family activities across the weekend. On the water there are stand-up paddleboard rentals and beginner double-kayak sessions run by Splash Sports, alongside boat tours and a seashore safari for anyone keen to see the harbour up close. On land, expect chef demonstrations using local shellfish, a marine creature feature aimed at children, arts and crafts, and a self-guided family treasure hunt around the village. There is also a Who’s For Science activity strand and involvement from BIM, the Irish state agency for the seafood sector, reflecting the working harbour behind the festival. A 10-mile run adds a sporting edge to the weekend for anyone who wants to earn their seafood dinner afterwards. All water-based activities require parental supervision for children.
Cromane is a small peninsula village on Castlemaine Harbour, about 10km from Killorglin on minor coastal roads. There is no public transport directly to the village, so a car is the practical option, with parking available around the harbour for festival weekend.
