Muckross Park Hotel Afternoon Tea

At Muckross Park Hotel & Spa · Muckross, Killarney, Co. Kerry

Afternoon tea service at luxury Muckross Park Hotel

Afternoon tea at the five-star Muckross Park Hotel & Spa is a slow afternoon done properly. The hotel sits inside Killarney National Park, about five kilometres south of the town, and the setting alone lifts the occasion above the ordinary. It suits anyone who wants a proper treat - a couple looking for something a little special, families marking a birthday, or solo visitors who want to sit quietly with good tea and watch the park light shift through the windows.

What to expect

Tea is served in Monk’s Lounge, a bright, fireside room within the hotel. The format follows the traditional three-tier structure: finger sandwiches, warm scones with cream and jam, and a tier of pastries created by the hotel’s kitchen - seasonal and carefully put together rather than mass-produced. The tea list is by Ronnefeldt, a German house with roots going back to the 1820s, and the range covers everything from classic Assam and Darjeeling through to green and herbal options. If you want to push into full celebration mode, you can add a glass of Veuve Clicquot Champagne.

Service is unhurried. The hotel’s five-star rating is carried through in the details - proper crockery, attentive but not hovering staff, and a lounge that doesn’t feel rushed. Non-residents are welcome and regularly come just for tea.

Dietary requirements are accommodated but must be flagged at the time of booking.

Getting there

Killarney is well connected. By car, it sits on the N22 from Cork (about an hour) and the N21 from Limerick (roughly 90 minutes). From Dublin, the N7 and M7/N21 route takes around three hours. Muckross Park Hotel is on the Muckross Road (R562), clearly signposted from Killarney town, and has ample on-site parking at no charge.

By public transport, Bus Eireann and GoBus run coaches to Killarney from Cork, Dublin, and Limerick. From Killarney Bus and Train Station you can take a local bus or taxi to the hotel - it is about a ten-minute drive.

While you’re in Killarney

The hotel is the gateway to Muckross House, the Victorian mansion and its formal gardens, and the wider national park trails are walkable from the car park. After tea, a short stroll to the lake shore at Muckross or around the abbey ruins makes for an easy afternoon. There is more to see in Killarney and across Co. Kerry.
