Rose of Tralee Festival - Nightlife & Celebrations

At Tralee Town Centre - Multiple Venues · Various venues, Tralee, Co. Kerry

Rose of Tralee Festival

Every August, Tralee undergoes a transformation that has to be seen to be believed. The Rose of Tralee International Festival - running August 14-18, 2026 - takes over the entire town centre for five days of parades, live concerts, street carnival, fireworks and late-night celebrations that keep going well past midnight. If you want to experience one of Ireland’s most famous and genuinely good-humoured festivals at its most electric, the evening and night-time programme is where the atmosphere really builds.

What to expect

From 8pm onwards, Tralee town centre becomes one long open-air party. Multiple stages host live music ranging from tribute acts and pop and rock bands to traditional Irish musicians, and much of this outdoor entertainment is free. The funfair runs into the night with rides from gentle carousels to faster waltzers, and the carnival market fills the streets with food stalls and craft sellers. On Saturday night a grand parade starts at 8:30pm, led by marching bands and costumed performers, and the festival closes on Tuesday night with a midnight parade following the selection of the Rose - complete with a fireworks display. The Parade of Light, with lantern-covered floats lighting up the town, is one of the most photogenic moments of the whole week. Tralee’s pubs fill up quickly each evening, and the town has a genuine party energy that feels inclusive rather than rowdy - visitors, locals and the Rose delegations from around the world all mixing together. The televised RTE Selection Nights (August 17 and 18) add extra buzz; even watching on a screen in a pub with the town buzzing outside is a fine way to spend an evening.

Getting there

Tralee is the county town of Kerry and well connected. By road it sits on the N21 from Limerick and the N22 from Cork and Killarney - both straightforward routes. Irish Rail runs direct services to Tralee from Dublin Heuston (via Mallow, around 3.5 hours) and from Cork (around 2 hours); the station is a short walk from the town centre. Bus Eireann coaches connect Tralee to Cork, Limerick and Dublin. During festival week, parking in the town centre is very limited - coaches, buses and taxis are a much easier option, and if you are staying locally, walking distance accommodation is worth booking many months ahead.

While you’re in Tralee

Tralee is a good base for a few days in the Kingdom. The Dingle Peninsula is less than an hour west, Killarney and its national park are 20 minutes south, and the Ring of Kerry loop starts just beyond. There is more to see in Tralee and across Co. Kerry.
