Grease The Musical

At Siamsa Tíre Theatre & Arts Centre · Godfrey Place, Tralee, Co. Kerry

Grease The Musical production by Siamsa Tíre

Siamsa Tíre brings the classic rock and roll musical Grease to Tralee for five nights in August 2026, running from Wednesday 5 August through Sunday 9 August. It is a full local production directed by Oliver Hurley, with choreography by Justin Walsh and musical direction by Sorcha O’Connor - a proper community effort with a cast drawn from the Kerry area. If you grew up with Sandy and Danny, or if you are introducing the show to younger family members for the first time, this is the kind of summer evening out that stays with you. The venue seats around 350, so it feels intimate enough that every seat gets a good view of the stage.

What to expect

Grease is set in 1959 and follows the romance between clean-cut Sandy and leather-jacketed Danny as they navigate love, identity, and the social pressures of high school. The story is brisk and funny, and the songs are relentless crowd-pleasers - Summer Nights, Greased Lightnin’, Hopelessly Devoted to You, and You’re The One That I Want all feature. Evening performances start at 7:30pm and include an interval, running to roughly two hours. There is also a Sunday matinee at 2:00pm on 9 August, which suits families with younger children. Pre-ordering snacks and drinks at the time of booking is available, which saves queuing at the interval bar.

Getting there

Siamsa Tíre sits at Godfrey Place in Tralee town centre, beside the town park and close to the main shopping streets. From Dublin, the N7 and N21 bring you to Tralee in around three and a half hours; from Cork, the N22 takes roughly an hour and a half. Bus Éireann runs regular services to Tralee Bus Station from Dublin, Cork, and Limerick - the theatre is a short walk from the bus station. Irish Rail connects Tralee to Mallow (change for Cork) and to Killarney. Street parking is available around the town park area, and there are pay car parks within a few minutes’ walk.

While you’re in Tralee

The town makes a solid base for exploring north Kerry - Banna Strand, the Dingle Peninsula, and Blennerville Windmill are all within easy reach. There is more to see in Tralee and across Co. Kerry.
