At Set Theatre Kilkenny · John Street, Kilkenny, Co. Kilkenny
Comedian and author David Nihill returns to Ireland with his new show Taking Tangents, playing the Set Theatre in Kilkenny on Friday, 2 October 2026 at 7:30pm. It is a second Kilkenny date, added, in the venue’s words, “due to phenomenal demand” following a sold-out world tour. The show is fully seated and, like the venue’s other comedy bookings, is for over-18s unless otherwise specified.
Nihill was born and raised in Dublin until the age of 22 before what the Set Theatre calls getting “drunk on travel” and never quite sobering up from it. He has lived and worked in twelve countries and visited more than eighty, and Taking Tangents draws on those travels, his cultural observations, attempts at learning languages and life as what he calls a “mildly confused immigrant.” He is the winner of the San Francisco Comedy Competition, whose past finalists include Robin Williams, and was runner-up in The Moth’s largest US Grandslam storytelling competition. He has recorded three specials for Dry Bar Comedy, most recently the award-winning Shelf Help in 2025, and has appeared on TED.com, Sirius XM, Just For Laughs, Netflix Is A Joke Festival, RTE’s Late Late Show and NPR. His online clips have been viewed more than 800 million times.
The Set Theatre is inside the Langton House Hotel on John Street in Kilkenny city centre, an easy walk from the Parade and Market Cross. Kilkenny’s train and bus station on Dublin Road is about ten minutes away on foot, with pay parking available nearby, including at the Ormonde Road multi-storey.
John Street has a good choice of bars and restaurants for a pre-show meal, close to Kilkenny Castle and the older streets around the Parade. There is more to see in Kilkenny and across Co. Kilkenny.
