At The Parade · The Parade, Kilkenny City, Co. Kilkenny
Madra Monday brings a dedicated dog show arena to The Parade in Kilkenny city on the last Monday of October, run by Savour Kilkenny alongside the regular Monday Market. It is a community-facing spin-off from the county’s food festival programme, built specifically around dogs and their owners rather than food stalls, and it has grown into a popular seasonal fixture for anyone in Kilkenny with a dog to show off.
The event runs from midday to 4pm, with a final call for entries 30 minutes before closing, on The Parade in the heart of Kilkenny city. Organisers describe it as a celebration of dogs and food, with dog-friendly activities, expert advice, demonstrations, competitions and giveaways running throughout the afternoon. A dog show arena is the centrepiece, alongside canine care tips, dog nutrition information, treats and photo opportunities, and the event runs in parallel with the Monday Market, so visitors can combine a look at the dog show with a browse of market stalls on the same visit. Presented by Connolly’s RED MILLS, a well known Kilkenny-based pet food brand, the event has a practical, hands-on feel rather than a formal competition, aimed at families and dog owners as much as serious show entrants. Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times, and owners are responsible for their dog’s welfare and behaviour throughout. The venue is wheelchair accessible.
The Parade is in the centre of Kilkenny city, close to Kilkenny Castle and the main shopping streets. On-street and nearby car park parking is available, and the location is a short walk from the MacDonagh railway station.
The Parade sits right beside Kilkenny Castle, so a visit pairs easily with a walk through the castle grounds or along the Medieval Mile. There is more to see across Kilkenny City and Co. Kilkenny.
