St Canice’s Cathedral runs a free family print workshop, Windows into Heritage, on Friday, 21 August 2026 as part of National Heritage Week. The two hour session, from 2pm to 4pm, invites families to make their own prints inspired by the cathedral’s stained glass and stonework. It is one of two Heritage Week events the cathedral is running that week, alongside a talk on the graveyard’s memorials the following morning, and sits within Kilkenny’s wider Heritage Week programme of events across the city and county.
The workshop takes the cathedral’s own windows and architectural detail as its starting point, giving children and parents a hands on print making activity inside the 800 year old building rather than a straight tour or talk. It runs for two hours on the Friday afternoon, aimed squarely at families rather than being a general adult heritage talk. St Canice’s has been busy with events through the summer of 2026, including evening recitals and, from mid September, the Peace Doves art installation, so the Heritage Week workshop is a rare free, family specific date on an otherwise adult leaning events calendar at the cathedral. National Heritage Week itself runs across Kilkenny with events at multiple venues, coordinated locally alongside the Heritage Council’s national programme, and this workshop is the cathedral’s own contribution aimed at younger visitors.
St Canice’s Cathedral stands on Coach Road at the top of Kilkenny city, a short walk uphill from the Medieval Mile and High Street. Kilkenny city is well served by Bus Éireann and rail from Dublin, Waterford and Cork, and the cathedral is within easy walking distance of the city centre and its main car parks.
