At Castleinch Venue · Route N76, Callan Road, Castleinch, Kilkenny, Co. Kilkenny
Castleinch Venue on the Callan Road hosts what its own organisers and regular traders call Ireland’s longest-running car boot and market, open every Sunday of the year from 8am to 4pm, with traders setting up from 7am. It combines a large covered market hall with an open-air field of car boot pitches, and the sheer scale of it, clothes, tools, antiques, plants, electronics and general household bric-a-brac all under one roof or across one field, is what keeps regulars coming back week after week.
The venue splits into indoor stalls, run by regular traders selling everything from new and second-hand clothing to homewares, and an outdoor car boot section where anyone can turn up with a car load of items to sell. Full kitchen and restaurant facilities operate on site all day, so it is easy to make a morning of it rather than a quick browse. The site is fully accessible, with acres of free parking, which is part of why it has grown into one of the biggest weekly markets in the south east rather than a small local car boot. Early birds who arrive for the 8am opening tend to get the best pick of second-hand and antique finds, while the market stays busy with families and casual browsers through to mid-afternoon.
Castleinch is on Route N76, the Callan Road, a short drive south west of Kilkenny city centre. The venue has extensive free on-site parking for the volume of Sunday traffic it draws, and there is no dedicated public transport service, so a car is the practical way to get there.
Castleinch is close enough to the city that a Sunday market visit fits easily alongside time in Kilkenny City itself. There is more to see across Co. Kilkenny.
