Mountain View Markets - Sunday Artisan and Food Market

Mountain View Markets takes over the car park and grounds of Mountain View Golf Course outside Ballyhale every Sunday from March to September, turning a working golf course in south Kilkenny into one of the county’s better-known weekend markets. It runs from 10am to 4pm and mixes food stalls, craft producers and live music, pulling in visitors from Kilkenny city, Waterford and south Tipperary as much as locals, thanks to its position just off the main Kilkenny to Waterford road.

What to expect

Expect a working mix of food and craft stalls rather than a single theme: local growers and bakers selling alongside artisan food producers, craft-makers and the odd vintage or bric-a-brac trader. Live music plays through the afternoon most Sundays, and the golf course setting means there is space to walk around, sit outside with food bought on site, and let children run around the grounds. The market has built a following well beyond Ballyhale itself over the years it has been running, helped by its scenic hillside location and the fact that it operates rain or shine through the summer season. Because it is seasonal, running March to September, this Sunday in July falls well within the season, but visitors travelling any distance are advised to check the market’s own social media the week before in case of a one-off closure.

Getting there

Mountain View Golf Course is signposted off the R448 near Ballyhale, roughly 16 kilometres south east of Kilkenny city. There is ample free car parking on site as part of the golf course grounds, and the €3 charge is per car rather than per person.
