Kris Drever at Monroe's Live

At Monroe's Live · Dominick Street Upper, Galway City, Co. Galway

Folk singer and guitarist performing live at Monroe's Live Galway

What to Expect

Kris Drever is a Scottish, Orkney raised folk singer and guitarist best known as a member of the band Lau alongside fiddle player Aidan O’Rourke and accordionist Martin Green, a group that has won multiple BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards for pushing traditional Scottish music into more experimental, occasionally electronic territory. Outside Lau he has built a respected solo career and recorded with the trio Fine Friday, and his solo shows tend to strip that experimentation back toward a more straightforward guitar and voice format, built on strong original songwriting and a deep, well schooled understanding of the wider folk tradition he comes from. Expect a set heavy on guitar work, a warm, unshowy voice, and the kind of between song storytelling that a lot of the best folk performers use to frame otherwise fairly stark material. This is a genuinely respected name in UK and Irish folk circles rather than a crossover pop booking, likely to draw a knowledgeable audience.
