What to Expect

Lees Road parkrun is a free, timed 5km event held every Saturday morning in Lees Road Sport and Amenity Park on the edge of Ennis town. The course runs on a mix of trail and forest paths through the park’s woodland, and while it is generally regarded as one of the flatter Clare courses, the surface can be soft underfoot after rain. It draws a genuine cross-section of the county town: some come to chase a personal best against the clock, plenty more come to walk it with a buggy or a dog, and nobody is timed out or left behind. parkrun’s core idea, free weekly 5k events run entirely by volunteers, started in London in 2004 and reached Ireland in 2012; Ennis has had its own edition at Lees Road as part of that same nationwide network for several years. Every run finishes through a funnel staffed by volunteers who scan each finisher’s barcode, and full results, including age-graded times, are published online within hours.

Good to Know

• Every Saturday at 9:30am, 52 weeks a year, weather permitting.
• Free to take part - register once, for free, at parkrun.ie and bring your barcode (printed or on your phone) every week; it is what records your finishing time.
• Lees Road Sport and Amenity Park has a playground and toilets on site, making it a workable Saturday morning outing for families.
• Dogs on short leads and running buggies are welcome; walkers are as welcome as runners.
• New volunteers are always wanted for marshalling, timekeeping and barcode scanning - sign up through the event’s volunteer roster.
• Full results and a written run report are posted on the Lees Road parkrun page after every event.

Getting There

Lees Road Sport and Amenity Park is about 1km south-west of Ennis town centre. Car parking is available at the park entrance, and it is an easy walk or cycle from most of the town.
