Leinster Minor Hurling Championship - Wexford

At Chadwicks Wexford Park · Clonard Road, Wexford, Co. Wexford

Leinster Minor Hurling Championship

Minor hurling in Wexford is about more than a result. When the county’s under-17s take the field at Chadwicks Wexford Park, you are watching the next generation of Wexford hurlers - players who have been training since they could hold a hurl, competing at provincial level for the first time in front of a home crowd. It is the kind of afternoon where a county’s future announces itself, and the atmosphere, even for a minor fixture, carries genuine weight in a county where hurling runs deep.

What to expect

The Electric Ireland Leinster Minor Hurling Championship is the under-17 provincial competition organised by Wexford GAA, with the county competing against Leinster’s hurling counties across a series of group and knockout rounds from April onwards. By late June, fixtures carry real consequence - these are players pushing for recognition at county development level and beyond.

Chadwicks Wexford Park on Clonard Road is the county ground, with a capacity of around 18,000 and a covered main stand running the length of one sideline. The terrace ends offer standing room for supporters who prefer to watch on their feet. The ground has undergone development in recent years including upgraded dressing rooms and improved accessibility facilities. Turnout for minor fixtures is more relaxed than senior championship days, which means you can arrive without rushing and still get a decent vantage point.

The standard of play in Leinster minor hurling is high - the province consistently produces All-Ireland contenders, and Wexford minor teams have a track record of punching above their weight in the competition.

Getting there

Wexford town is well connected by road and rail. From Dublin, the M11 motorway runs south to Gorey and on to Wexford town - allow about 90 minutes from the city centre. Irish Rail operates regular services from Dublin Heuston and Dublin Connolly to Wexford station, with the journey taking roughly two hours.

Chadwicks Wexford Park sits in a residential area off Clonard Road, so on-street parking near the ground is limited. Paid parking is available at Clonard Church directly beside the ground, and at North End United FC and St. Peter’s College, both a short walk away. Walking from the town centre takes around 15 to 20 minutes.

While you’re in Wexford

Wexford town rewards a longer visit - the medieval quarter, the quayside, and Johnstown Castle are all within easy reach of the ground. There is more to see in Wexford and across Co. Wexford.
