FILTRATIONS - Kate Rusek

At Leitrim Sculpture Centre · New Line, Manorhamilton, Co. Leitrim

FILTRATIONS exhibition by Kate Rusek at Leitrim Sculpture Centre

What to Expect

FILTRATIONS is a solo exhibition by artist Kate Rusek, exploring movement and dwelling through the interconnected links between land and sea. Rusek draws on filtration mechanisms found in natural ecosystems, fungi, marine organisms and nitrogen-fixing plants, as metaphors for the way people process emotion, grief and memory. The show brings together ceramics and porcelain glazes, mixed-media works, found materials, votive objects and a large-scale, site-specific installation built for the gallery. Themes of edge-zone ecology and biological pattern run alongside more personal material around absence and remembrance, and the work asks visitors to reconsider the connections, and the boundaries, between the living world and the manufactured one. The centre’s own gallery is described by the venue as a testing ground for new work, where the creative process continues into how a piece is finally displayed to the public, and FILTRATIONS was developed as part of Rusek’s residency there rather than arriving as a finished touring show. It runs at the same time as the centre’s autumn programme of hands-on workshops in the studio building next door.
