At ACM Community Centre · 14-15 Castle Street, Castleconnell, Co. Limerick
Castleconnell Active Social Group has grown to more than 100 members since it began meeting weekly at the ACM Community Centre, running in conjunction with the National Active Retirement Association. It meets every Tuesday and is open to both genders, all denominations and all ages, whether working, seeking work or retired, which makes it broader than a typical active retirement group despite the name.
The group’s main draw is simple: a regular Tuesday gathering where people who might otherwise be isolated during the week can meet, chat and take part in group activities together at the ACM Community Centre. As part of the National Active Retirement Association network, the Castleconnell group can also link into that organisation’s wider programme of trips, talks and events beyond the weekly meeting. The ACM Community Centre itself, run by ACM Community Development Society, hosts a range of other classes and groups through the week, so the Tuesday social session sits within a busier community building rather than standing alone, and newcomers are folded into an established, welcoming routine rather than a one-off event.
The ACM Community Centre is at 14-15 Castle Street in the centre of Castleconnell, a village on the Shannon about 13km north-east of Limerick city. There is parking near the centre and it is an easy walk from anywhere in the village.
Castleconnell sits right on the River Shannon and is known locally for salmon fishing and its riverside walks. There is more to see in Castleconnell and across Co. Limerick.
