Breffni Men's Group - Weekly Gathering

Breffni Men’s Group meets every Tuesday morning at Breffni Family Resource Centre in Carrick-on-Shannon, giving men in the area a regular, low-pressure space to meet others and take part in activities together. It is one of a number of groups run from the centre, alongside a women’s group, a walking group and a parent and toddler group, and it exists specifically to reduce isolation among men and support wellbeing through simple social contact rather than formal counselling or programmes.

What to expect

Sessions run for two hours each Tuesday morning, from 11am to 1pm, and the format leans toward informal activities and conversation rather than a structured class. Breffni Family Resource Centre describes its approach as offering fun, creative and wellbeing-focused activities, and the group is aimed at any man in the Carrick-on-Shannon area who wants a reason to get out of the house and meet people on a regular basis, whether that is after retirement, after a bereavement, or simply because the routine of a weekly group suits them. The centre runs a wider programme alongside the men’s group, including a memory cafe, a youth cafe and crafting sessions, so the building itself is busy through the week with different age groups passing through.

Breffni Family Resource Centre is on Breffni Crescent in Carrick-on-Shannon, a short distance from the town centre and easily reached on foot or by car, with parking available near the centre.
