At Cappamore, Co. Limerick · Cappamore, Co. Limerick
The 70th Cappamore Show is a landmark edition of one of Munster’s most respected one-day agricultural shows. Running since 1954, it has earned a strong following among livestock exhibitors, farming families, and day-trippers alike - this year the milestone anniversary gives it an added sense of occasion. If you want a proper taste of rural Irish life with some genuine competition, this is the kind of event that still feels rooted in the community that built it.
The showfield at Ballyvoreen fills early. Livestock classes are the backbone of the day - cattle and horse showing, plus jumping classes, draw serious competitors from across Munster and beyond. Alongside them, you will find competitions in cookery, crafts, and horticultural and agricultural produce: sections where skills that have been passed down through generations go head to head in front of judges.
Vintage engine displays bring a different crowd - enthusiasts who spend the year restoring machinery and one day a year showing it off. Artisan food and craft stalls round the ground out, and there is entertainment for children throughout the afternoon. Gates open at 11am, giving plenty of time to work around the full programme before the day wraps up.
Admission is Adults €15, OAPs and students (ID required) €10, and children get in free - making it a reasonable family day out.
Cappamore village sits on the R506, roughly 15km east of Limerick city on the road towards Tipperary. From Limerick, follow the R506 through Annacotty and Castleconnell; Cappamore is well signposted from there. The showfield is at Ballyvoreen just outside the village. Parking is available on site. There is no direct bus service to Cappamore on show day, so a car or lift is the practical option for most visitors.
Cappamore itself is a quiet village with a strong community character - the kind of place that puts on an event of this scale through volunteer effort year after year. August in east Limerick is worth taking slowly. There is more to see in Cappamore and across Co. Limerick.
