Cook Medical Mini-Marathon

Runners at the Cook Medical Mini-Marathon, Limerick

The Cook Medical Mini-Marathon is a 10 kilometre road race organised by Limerick Athletic Club, taking place on Sunday, 4 October 2026, starting and finishing at UL Arena on the University of Limerick campus. Now in its 28th year, the race was first set up by Limerick AC in 1999 and has grown into one of the city’s biggest mass-participation running events, with around 4,000 runners and walkers expected to take part in 2026. It is a fundraising event, with individual entrants regularly running for their own chosen charities.

What to expect

The mini-marathon format, familiar from similar events around Ireland, is aimed squarely at first-time runners, walkers and charity fundraisers as much as competitive athletes, so the field ranges from club runners to people doing their first ever timed run. In 2025, entrants raised over 60,000 euro for charity, and organisers expect a similarly strong turnout for the 2026 edition. Registration is handled online through Eventmaster, with entrants receiving a race number and timing chip. The course starts and finishes at UL Arena, the university’s sports campus on the banks of the Shannon, giving runners a scenic, mostly flat route to work with. Marshals and water stations are provided along the route, as is standard for organised road races of this size.

Getting there

UL Arena is on the University of Limerick campus, a short drive or bus ride from Limerick city centre. Bus Eireann runs regular services to UL, and there is parking on campus, though spaces fill quickly on race morning given the size of the field.

While you’re in Limerick

A Sunday morning race at UL is an easy way to start a weekend visit, with the city centre a short drive away for the rest of the day. There is more to see in Limerick and across Co. Limerick.
