European Sport for All Games 2026

At Multiple venues across Limerick City Centre · Limerick City Centre, Limerick

European Sport for All Games Limerick

For six days in August 2026, Limerick city becomes the stage for a genuinely unusual spectacle: teams from 26 European countries arriving to share the traditional sports and games of their home regions with anyone who turns up. The 3rd TAFISA European Sport for All Games is a free, open event - not a competition to watch from the sidelines but an invitation to try things you have almost certainly never tried. It suits the curious, families with children, and anyone who wants a day out that feels nothing like a typical sports event.

What to expect

The Games run from 6 to 11 August and take place at ten locations across Limerick city centre, including King John’s Castle, Arthur’s Quay Park, the Hunt Museum Garden, the Milk Market, People’s Park, and the Crescent. The opening ceremony is at King John’s Castle on Friday 7 August, setting the tone for a week of demonstrations and hands-on activity.

Each delegation brings their own game. Expect Barrel Rolling from France, Horseshoe Throw from Hungary, Tamburello from Italy, Asphalt Stock Sport from Austria, Pljockanje from Poland, and Gymnastics displays from Estonia - alongside a full programme of other traditional sports from the remaining delegations. The public are invited to try the games themselves, not just watch. Cultural performances and workshops run alongside the sport throughout the week.

The event is organised by Limerick Sports Partnership and TAFISA, with support from Limerick City and County Council, the University of Limerick, Sport Ireland, and co-funding from the European Union. It sits within the context of Ireland holding the EU Presidency in 2026, which gives the occasion an extra layer of significance.

Limerick city centre is accessible by Bus Eireann and Expressway services from Cork, Dublin, Galway, and other major towns. City centre parking is available at Arthur’s Quay Shopping Centre, Merchant’s Quay, and along the quays, though walking between venues is easy once you are in the city.

While you’re in Limerick

Limerick in August is a fine city to spend a few days - the medieval quarter around King John’s Castle, the Hunt Museum’s art collection, and the Georgian streets of the Newtown Pery district all sit within easy reach of the Games venues. There is more to see in Limerick and across Co. Limerick.
