The Obstacle Course Racing World Championships come to Limerick Racecourse from Thursday, 6 August to Sunday, 9 August 2026, bringing competitors from across the world to Greenmount Park for four days of racing over mud, walls, rope climbs and rig obstacles. It is the first time the championships have been held in Ireland, with the University of Limerick serving as the athlete village for the week. Limerick Racecourse, best known for its Flat and National Hunt fixtures, is turned into a purpose-built obstacle course for the event, running alongside the European Sport for All Games taking place in the city that same week.
Competitors race across five formats over the four days: a fast 100m sprint through obstacles, a longer 400m course, short and standard-distance races over open country, and team relay events, with age-group and elite categories run alongside each other. Expect mud, water crossings, rope and rig obstacles on a course built specifically for the championships across the racecourse grounds. The event draws elite obstacle course racers alongside amateur age-group competitors who have qualified through national OCR federations, so the standard ranges from world-class athletes to committed hobbyists. Spectators can walk sections of the course to watch competitors tackle individual obstacles, and the racecourse’s existing grandstand and hospitality facilities are in use for the week. Athletes register directly through the event website, with the full daily schedule published closer to the championships.
Limerick Racecourse is at Greenmount Park in Patrickswell, about ten minutes’ drive south of Limerick city just off the N20 to Cork. The racecourse has its own car parking on site. Bus Eireann services run from Limerick city towards Patrickswell, though a car is the more practical option for a racecourse event of this size.
