Loch sa Leabharlann: Wildlife of Ireland's Lakes and Rivers

At Dungarvan Library · Davitt's Quay, Dungarvan, Co. Waterford

Library talk room set up for a public information session

What to Expect

As part of National Heritage Week 2026, Waterford City and County Council’s Biodiversity Officer joins a National Parks and Wildlife Service Conservation Ranger for “Loch sa Leabharlann” (Lake in the Library), a dual-language talk on the species and habitats found in Ireland’s lakes and rivers, at Dungarvan Library on Wednesday, 19 August 2026, from 11am to 1pm. The talk is delivered partly in Irish and partly in English, and is aimed at the general public rather than specialists, covering the wildlife that depends on freshwater habitats around County Waterford and further afield, from fish and waterfowl to the plants and insects that make up the wider ecosystem. National Heritage Week runs nationally from 15 to 23 August 2026 under the theme “Heritage at Risk”, and Waterford’s Biodiversity Office uses the week to run a series of public talks and workshops highlighting local wildlife and habitats, of which this library talk is one. It is a free, informal talk rather than a ticketed event, run in partnership with Waterford Libraries as host venue, and fits the library’s wider role hosting public information sessions and talks for the local community throughout the year.
