At Enybegs · Enybegs, Co. Longford
One of the oldest agricultural shows in Ireland, the Longford Agricultural Show has been drawing farming families and town folk alike to Enybegs in Killoe for over 119 years. It falls on the first day of July, admission is free, and the programme runs all day. If you have children, an interest in livestock or working animals, or simply want a good day in the open air, this is the kind of event that earns its reputation.
The show ground at Enybegs covers an impressive spread of livestock classes - cattle, sheep, horses, pigs, goats, and dogs. Cattle classes run across the main pedigree and commercial breeds, including Friesian, Belgian Blue, Charolais, Hereford and Angus, with separate calf championships. Sheep classes cover Suffolk, Texel and Charolais. The horse and pony section runs from showing in-hand through to ridden working hunters.
Showjumping draws reliably large crowds. Well-known trophies like the Longford Arms Cup and the Frank Kilkenny Cup are contested across pony and horse classes, and past years have seen record entries. Alongside the main ring there are craft and trade stands, food vendors, live music and dancing. Children’s entertainment runs throughout the day at no extra charge.

Parking is on site in the show fields; wear suitable footwear as grass ground can be soft after rain.
Longford town has a solid main street with cafes and restaurants worth an evening visit, and Lough Ree and the River Shannon are within easy reach for a walk once the crowds thin. There is more to see in Longford and across Co. Longford.
