County Longford is getting its first ever circus camp this summer, and it is free. Running from 29 June to 10 July 2026 at the Temperance Hall in Longford town, the programme gives children and teenagers two weeks of proper circus arts training - not a taster afternoon, but daily half-day sessions covering aerial performance, acrobatics, juggling, balance, object manipulation and clowning. No prior experience is needed, so whether a child has never touched a juggling ball or has been tumbling in the back garden for years, the camp is built to meet them where they are.
There are two age-group sessions running in parallel. Junior Circus (ages 8 to 12) runs each morning from 10am to 1pm, while Senior Circus (ages 13 to 14) takes the afternoons from 2pm to 4.30pm. The camp is led by Isab Ela, a professional circus educator with a background at Galway Circus School, and supported by facilitators Gavin Smith and Niamh Dennehy. All three bring genuine performance experience to the sessions, which means participants are learning from people who actually work in the art form.
The programme is part of Making Moving Art, delivered by the Longford School Completion Programme and funded by County Longford Arts Service and the Arts Council of Ireland. It is a serious creative investment in young people in the county, not a childcare solution - expect real skill building over the two weeks, with participants finishing able to demonstrate techniques they have genuinely practised.
